Near the mouth of the Buffalo River across from Buffalo’s Naval Park, the New York Power
Authority began construction of a new mooring location for the team of tug boats tasked with the
installation and maintenance of Lake Erie’s ice boom. Sheetpile bulkhead and deadman walls
were driven in parallel along the shoreline then connected with a waler and tierod system. Work
spanned through late summer of 2015. Final details were finished in spring 2016 as the mooring
system was prepared for recreational boat docking in the summer months.
